Tips:
- The search fields above can be used in combination to refine
your search results. For example, enter a search term and select
a start and end date to return any records matching the search
term within the dates specified.
- When using the "Search Term" field, there are several
operators available to refine your search:
- To match an exact phrase, surround the phrase in double quotation
marks.
- Use "AND" between search terms to match all words
entered.
- Use "OR" between search terms to match any word.
- The "*" character can be used as a wildcard and
stands for any number of characters. For example, searching for
"A 77*" will match any record with a Sudoc beginning
with "A 77".
- The "?" character can be used as a wildcard and
stands for any single character. For example, searching for "?ar?et"
would find both "carpet" and "target".
- When searching by keyword, each word must be found in the
Sudoc, title or any added subject items or notes. For most documents
published in 2004 and earlier, the title has been somewhat abbreviated,
so best results will be found by using words in the first part
of the title.
- If searching by the full Sudoc number in the "Search
Term" field, special characters such as "/" or
":" may interfere with the search. If no results are
returned, try using a partial Sudoc number. Another alternative
is to place the Sudoc prefix (everything up to the ":"
character) in the "Sudoc Prefix" field, then the remaining
characters (after the ":" symbol) in the "Search
Terms" field.
- When searching by Sudoc prefix, enter the first letter(s),
then 1 space, then the remaining numbers and characters. That
first space is required, but use no other spaces.
- Set the "Max Records" per page before clicking
on the "Search" button.
- When searching by title, enter all words exactly as in the
beginning of a title or other section of the title, do not leave
out common "stop" words such as of, the, or
